Memory Errors when using DVD Program

I am having problems using my Mediamatics DVD Express program on my IBM ThinkPad T20 laptop (13gb hard drive, 256mb RAM). Whenever I try to use the prgram I get the following error message:

The instruction at “0x01ffdb7” referenced memory at “0x0204900.” The memory could not be “written.” Press Ok to terminate the program or Cancel to debug.

This is a nearly brand-new laptop and it played DVD’s for the first two weeks I owned it. Now it won’t. I have run the chkdsk utility and that has not helped. I have defragamented–again it hasn’t helped. Can someone out there help me??
