Merging Access97 fields w/ Word97 table

I’ve been trying to export the fields of an Access97 database table into a Word97 word processing table. I am highlighting the database table in Access97, clicking the Word integration icon, and choosing to link the data to an existing Word document (a Word97 table). But the result of the merge is a separate Word97 table for each record. What I want is a single Word97 table with each record being a row within that table.

My operating system is Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.1998
