Merging .dbx and .doc files into Access

I am trying to merge a large address book, over 12,000 entries, written in .dbx in Microsoft Works, with an agenda, written in .doc in Microsoft Word. I want to be able to create a daily agenda where I can import the address and phone info from the address book when and where I choose. Is this doable??? Have not figured it out so far. Tried converting the database to excel, but it will not let me have two files open at the same time.????
