Messenger Service fails 2119

Suddenly, changing the name on a W2kPro w/s causes the “Messenger service failed with error 2119”. This nevr happened before when I rolled out a machine by cloning and renaming. This does not occur when the network wire is unplugged. There are no duplicate names on our small network. The error code isn’t listed on the MS KB but it has something to do with resource allocation. But why would a name change cause this. Any help is appreciated.
