Microphone doesn’t work

I was trying to use a web to phone application, and when I reached the people I was trying to call, they couldn’t hear me. I tried recording a audio clip, and it wouldn’t record. I have tried everything I know of the remedy this problem, yet nothingseems to work. I am using a sound card that utilized the Crystal Fusion sound card drivers, under WIN 98 on an E-Machines 466 mHZ.
