Microphone recording volume very low

Hi
The microphone recording volume is very low.
Yet the volume adjustment is set to high.
Usually there is a microphine boost in the realtek HD audio manager but I can not find it.
Have upgraded the sound driver “Realtek high definition audio” but to no avail.
