I am having an issue with one of my mirrored raid-1 arrays. The problem is, my hardware raid setup recognizes the raid array just fine but once I get into Vista and go to the disk manager or my computer, the drive is nowhere to be found. If I delete the raid-1 array, the two individual drives show up just fine under vista. I am using an Asus A8n-Sli deluxe motherboard both Sil3114 and Nvidia raid onboard and the problem happens with both raid hardware configs. The drives I am using are 2 Maxtor 500gig sata drives and both have been initialized and fully formatted correctly. Here are some of the things I have tried so far.
-Connected the two drives to both different onboard raid devices(Sil3114 and Nvidia) same result.
-Reformatted both drives fully and repartitioned
-Changed drive letters for both drives
-Set both drives to both cached and uncached.
-Updated all drivers
-Rolled back all drivers.
-Changed jumper settings on both drives from 1.5 to 3.0gps and back again
The funny thing is that my other raid-1 arrays on this system work just fine and so did this one before I had to re-install vista after having too many problems. As soon as I reinstalled vista, this raid array stopped working and I haven’t been able to get it to work since. I thing I have narrowed it to one of two things.
1. One of the drives is bad. I don’t thing this is the problem because the both format just fine and have not errors after dist check
2. There is something saved in the registry from the array before it stopped working that is keeping it from working now.
One update is that recently when I hook the drives to the Nvidia onboard raid ports and put them into mirrored mode, they do show up the the disk manager but still has two seperate drives.
Any ideas?????
