I recently had to clean up a xindows XP Pro machine laden with Spyware. Somewhere in this processs the operating system stopped recognizing the CD Rom drive. Device manager shows that the driver is missing or corrupt. The drive is an LG CED8083B. There are no Windows XP drivers avaialable for this drive. The drive is recognized properly in the BIOS.
I tried a second working CD Rom drive with the same result. The BIOS recognizes the drive but device manager in XP says the driver is corrupt or missing. How can I fix the “generic” driver in Windows that handles CD Rom drives?
