Missing HIMEM.SYS

by daniel.morgan68 . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

Hello

I’m new to this and am not really a one that knows much about computers but I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some help in an idiots guide style answer.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1670CDS using Windows 98. I turned it on one day and a message came up saying ‘operating system not found’

I searched on this site and someone had a similar problem to me and after following some advice (taking the whole thing apart and removing then replacing the hard drive) I fired it up and I got the Windows 98 logo screen. The logo screen stayed on for ages then I got an error saying ‘The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS’

Now having searched this site again I’ve found a couple of threads that may be of help however I am not in possesion of any software for the laptop.

My questions are 1) How can I overcome this problem of not having any relevant software and 2) What exactly will I need to do if I manage to find the HIMEM.SYS file to put on the laptop?

Any help would be very appreciated

Thanks in advance

Dan
