Missing logos

I have an old PII 233MhZ running 98SE and IE6. I have recently reinstalled Windows but ever since, my IE6 doesn’t show the spinning logo in the top right hand corner (or any logo for that matter).

The motherboard is the older type which used to come up with the “It is now safe to turn off your computer” until you used the button to turn it off. But that picture has also disappeared now and there is only a blank screen after the “Wait until Windows shuts down” picture. I checked and both logos.sys and logow.sys are in the c:\windows directory.

I have tried repairing IE6 and checked for viruses without luck. The Shutdown supplement is the latest from the MS update site.
