missing partition

I have a 80gb hhd with two similar sized partitions. Now the second partition is not only unaccessible but not functioning as well. Being the second partition at fault I doubt the MBR of the drive has anything to answer for. Computer says that the second partition needs to be formatted before using. Is there any software I can use to recover the partition without loosing the data?
