mmsound.dll

Recently, I was installing a PC at a company location and had to install a external modem for the user. After loading and rebooting, I am coming up with a “Cannot load mmsound.drv” error and the system shuts down. When the system restarts, it wants to start in Safe Mode, but I cannot remove the modem from here. I tried to copy the same file from another machine, to no avail and also tried to REM out the statement in the SYSTEM.INI file, but I get the Blue Screen of Death and the system hangsup. Any suggestions on rectifying this issue?
