I have a 3 Com Modem, now US Robotics.

Every time I start the computer, the modem tries to connect to the internet & causes the phone line to be busy (engaged). Every time it is unsucessful at connecting. When I dial up using the connection I have made it doesn’t recognize a busy tone as the modem doesn’t hang up automatically.
The only way I can connect to the internet is to not have the phone line in the modem whn I boot up or restart. Once it’s to windows, at that time I can put the RJ11 (phone line) in the modem & connect to the internet.
This is a pain.
I have uninstalled the modem & the drivers & reinstalled the the modem & drivers.
This has not affected the outcome.
I have not made a short cut to the start up / start menu for starting automatically.
This is a tricky problem.
There must be some software resolution in windowns.
Please advise.
