modem to modem programming in vb

Hi,
Im creating a program that connects to a remote computer and will send data. My program can dial a phone number and can answer but it wont connect. I’ve downloaded an example from microsoft knowledge base but it still dont connect to each other. What can be wrong? Please help. Thanks
