Monitor display

A customer has bought an ACER AL511 TFT monitor for her old Win98 PC. All works OK and is running with default driver. When she switches off, the monitor doesn’t show the ‘It is now safe to switch off your computer’ banner as it used to. However,if I switch the monitor off and on again (without touching the PC) it is displayed. Any ideas?
