Monitor no vidio

I would like to know what the problem is with a monitor when you turn it on and you get a bright line down the middle and then it slowly goes black, and will not come on. The green light just blinks. I know I have a hardware problem. I just would like to figure out if it is worth fixing. It is a 20″ monitor.
