Monitor/video card

I recently aquired a windows 98 box. When I turn it on my monitor goes from amber to green but I get no video. I chaanged out video cards and I get the same thing. It recognizes a monitor is present but the screen says check your cable or power cord. This same monitor works fine on any other box that I have. What could be the problem?
