Motherboard Upgrade

I am running win2000 Pro O/S and am thinking of upgrading my m/board. I
know a friend tried this and received blue screen at startup because of
m/board drivers, so my question is,is it possible to upgrade my m/board or
if I do will I have to reinstall win2000.
