Mount points not going away after dismnt

by paranoid . Updated 24 years ago

I have an NT server (SP6a)that is part of a job scheduler. A job on the server will assign drive letters and later delete them. The problem is that the mount points are still shown after the disconnect as either a removable drive or a local drive. Attempts to access the data usually results in “no network provider …”. The result is that the drive letter is still reserved and cannot be reused in subsequent jobs which then fail. A check in diskadmin and “net use” does not show the drives even though My Computer shows them as local. I cannot find them in the registry either.
I cannot reproduce the effects on demand yet there is a 95% probability that it will happen during a 4 hour run. There seems to be no consistency in which jobs are failing.
I’m baffled and need to get it resolved. I hope someone can help.
