mouse pointer problems in win 2000

I have had several users complain that the mouse pointer will behave erraticly in windows 2000. It does not matter if they have one or several programs open. The mouse pointer might move on its own, freeze and then move or move real slow as if it to trail when moving. How would I be able to fix this. Thanks for all the help.
