Ms-Dos compatability

I am running windows 98. Recently my computer has stopped detecting my cd-rom and cd-rw drives. In the device manager i am showing conflicts on my floppy disk controller, as well as on my primary ide controller (dual fifo) and secondary ide controller (dual fifo). Windows also is reporting under the performance tab that drives A: & C: are running in MS-Compatability Mode. Any ideas how to get my drives back and get rid of conflicts?
