MS IE and OE Printing Failure

I have a user who is unable to print from the MS IE/OE package. The error received is

Char: 2
Error: Invalid argument.
Code: 0 URL: res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL/preview.dlg
This is similar to MS’s Q293176, whose proposed fix Itried before and after moving the user to IE5.5SP1. I’ve also tried all IE fixes from Q128345, and a different printer (same and different vendor). Does anyone have a theory on what this might really be and how to cure it. The user proclaims no knowledge of differing activity, despite finding the Acro5 reader installed (since removed in favor of Acro4).
