MS Jet DB Engine Compatibility Problems

by stevesmit . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I work for a software development company that uses the MSJET Database Engine to open a particular database for queries. This part of the application was not developed by our company, but by a company that we subscribe to and receive monthly updatesof their database. Their database is accessed using MSJET 3.5 from Microsoft and since 1/1/2000 has performed without problems…until now. Visual Basic 6.0 incorporates a more recent version of the MSJET engine and there is quite a bit of software being written using VB 6.0 and we have found that our clients that are installing software using this new MSJET version CANNOT use our software without invoking database access errors. Microsoft claims that compatibility is okay going backwards, but obviously not forward. Does anybody have any ideas? Also the procedure for uninstalling the newer version of MSJET so the install of the 3.5 version could be redone? Help would be appreciated.
