MSDOS Batch File need to get DATE

I am downloading 6 files from our mainframe computer and they are going into a directory called C:\ATM THey will be named
BFDD0592.dat BFDD0595.dat BFDD0596.dat
BFDD0597.dat BFDD0598.dat BFDD0599.dat

I need to rename these files and replace the DD in each file name with the day portion of the date. EX: BFDD0592.dat would need to be BF250592.dat if the day is the 25th of the month. Then I need to ZIP all of these files and the name of the zip file needs to be in the same format
BFDD0592.dat with DD being replaced with the day number.

We have onloy 5 days to make this work and the Boss is jumping up and down any advice or help will gratly be apreciated and returned if we can help.
