Multiple Extended partitions : why not ?

Why can’t we create multiple Extended Partitions like we do Multiple primary partitions ?
as i know we can have upto 4 Primary partitions, what stops you from having multiple Extended partitions ??

How many logical drives we can have in NT & Win 2k ??
