native mode

I need clarification!!! Native mode only requires that all you PDCs are 2000 or does the clients have to be professionals too. i was watching this learnkey interactive CD and the gentleman kept saying that before you switch to native mode, you musthave both PDC and clients pure 2000. Please someone clarify.
