Hi All,
I have about 20 PCs that I support and currently run backup on. The backup is only on 1 or 2 main directories for each system, but I am pushing 3.5 GB. I run Full backups on Monday and Incremental Tuesday through Sunday. These backups are then burned to CD-Roms for safe keeping. CD-Rs for the Full and CD-RWs for the Incremental, and they get overwritten every 3 months. My problem is that I have outgrown this situation and am looking for a better one. My current backup takes about 3-7 hours to complete nightly. I need something faster, more robust, and very durable.
I am looking for options that other people may be using. I have a mixed, NT and 2000 domain though mostly 2000. Most of the systems have 20 GB drives, but I think I can get away with only backing up a portion of that. I currently use DataArmour, which has really worked well for me in the past, but I’m open to new ideas.
I would like specifics, to include Hardware and software that you are using. What type of media you use, optical, tape, cd, whatever. If anyone needs more information, please post a comment and I will go as far as I can. I am setting the points on this fairly high, in hopes of getting a lot of suggestions.
I will say that I believe a SAN is beyond my company’s budget, but all other suggestions will get you points. Thanks!
Roger
