Need to install a larger hard drive

Hello,
I don’t know very much about computers could any one please help. I have a Compaq Presario 1800 xl 190. It is P3 and has a processing speed of only 696 MHz. I would like to install a 60 gig hard drive. Would a 60GB hard drive work in my computer. If so which hard drives are universal, how can I find out if a certain hard drive will be compatible with my computer.
