net use sharing violation read drive c

Using various net use commands in a logon.bat file to automate mapping drive letters. Using Windows 2000 server SP2 and Windows 98SE clients. Most of the time, logons work absolutely fine, but occasionally (randomly) after a net use command is run, “sharing violation reading drive c, abort, retry, fail?” is displayed. Pressing R for retry works fine – the drive is mapped. There are up to 40 users on the network. Advice gratefully received. Thanks.
