Network Card

I have Win2000 installed on one HD and Win98SE on another HD. My ISP dial up modem worked fine in both. Went to a
cable modem and it seems as though 2000 has “taken over”.
In the 98 world I can still send and receive e-mail but cannot access the internet,which I can do in Win2000.
I have had numerous conversations with the ISP and cable providers and nothing works. A programmer suggested that another network card mite help. Anybody run into this?
