NETWORK CARD FOR HP RUNNING WINDOWS ME

I am trying to get a lynksis network card to work in a hp running windows me , when I put the card in the pci slot the machine will not boot up , I can not get any thing out of it at all but when I pull the card out of the machine it will boot up and work , so at this time if anyone has suggestions I am all ears.
