Network connection using crossover cable

Hello my question is quite simple(i guess)
i have two computers first one using windows xp profesional and the other using windows 98 second edition
i try to makea little home network using a crossover network cable and i can make the two computers see each other
can some one tell me step by step how i can configure the two pc so they can see each other
