Network Icons Disappeared

We loaded an OPC server package on a Windows 2000 Pro machine and the Network icons in network and dialup connections disappeared. The local are network connection is still working but we can’t make any changes to it. I think some thing got changed in the registry. Also we are unable to add any new connections using the one icon make new connection that is left. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
