Networking a laptop to a crashed hdd

I have two laptops, an Inspiron 8600 and an Inspiron 1300. The hdd on 1300 cannot be detected. Is there a way to connect to the hdd from my 8600 using a netgear router and the diagnostic tools available on the 1300?
