Networking Problems after SP1 install

Installed SP1 for Windows 2000 onto a Compaq Proliant Server running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. After reboot server boots normally until the splash screen with the message ‘preparing network settings’ appears, the systems just hangs at this pointwith the message above. Only able to reboot.
Tried Last Known Good Config with same result. I can boot in safe mode to the logon screen ok but no network capability.
I have installed SP1 on three other servers without incident…there’s always one!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
