Networking wint WinMe

When I attempt to network two computers at home I receive two error messages. I am attempting to connect a PC running Windows Mellemimum and one running W2KPRO. The WinMe machine crashes with an error message referring to “vserver” and a memory location. The W2KPRO machine flashes an error message that states the “network cable is disconnected.” I’m using a crossover cable to connect the two NIC’s. I can ping both PC’s from either machine. I’m certain my hardware is good. Also, I have re-imaged the WinMe PC with the same results. Has anyone had similar problems with WinMe? How did you fix it?
