New hard drive added. BIOS password?

Hello. My friend replaced is HD in his Sony VAIO desktop. He just put in a new Western Digital hard drive and when booting up, the computer recognizes the HD in BIOS, but the BIOS password box comes up. You can’t move the selection behind the dialog to disable the password. I was wondering if there is a list of default passwords it automatically uses, or there is a way to disable it. No one set a password on that, and I have no clue as to why it comes up. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks
