No 8mb leftover when partitioning SATA hard disk laptop. This Normal?

Hello, I’ve been trying to install Windows XP on my Gateway laptop:

I just noticed that during partitioning, there is no 8mb leftover. There’s always an 8mb leftover when I partition my desktop pc. I use NTFS by the way.

I’m trying to figure what causes the crash, so is this normal?
