No bootable device available error

by linda.calamito . Updated 19 years, 6 months ago

I have an old laptop (dell latitude) that was given to me. I don’t even know if it has a hard drive… I’m getting an error “no boot device available” when I go to setup utility, Primary Hard drive says “none”. When I reboot from this screen, I’m getting a screen that says the hard drive is protected by a password authentication system and I can’t access the data without the correct password. Any way to find the password? There is nothing displayed on the set-up screen under hard disk drive password(s) I can’t even get to that section of the screen.
