NO Dial tone on modem

i Try to connect to the internet and get an error message that says no dial tone and i’ve tried changing the connection to not wait for a dial tone and still get the same error message and this happens every so often 1 aweek to every 2 weeks i turn off the pc and take out the modem and put it back in and turn on pc and reconnect phone line and works fine i did have a fire 1yr ago last september and it has just started doing it was wondering if it was the modem before i bought one thanks
