No Dialtone on Dialup Connection

Hey Chuck hope you had a good christmas and i had a question i have been meaning to ask you i have tried to connect to the internet and everyone once in awhile it will say found no dial tone and i cut off the computer and push the modem into the slot or take it out and put it back in a it works fine it didn’t start happening until i hooked up a friends of mines scannerfax copier he gave me and it has done it for about 2 weeks till now is that a sign i need a new modem only had the computer 1yr and a half just wanted to know before i went and bought a new modem thanks for any help
