No disk mngmt options under Comp. Mngmt

Hello folks,
Hope someone can help get out of this sticky one!
Win2K Pro on a workgroup setup, all service packs including 4 + all patches patched up.
When I try to defrag mmc crashes with error: “MMC has generated errors and will closed by windows bla-bla-bla…”.
Checking around I found that under Computer Management, Storage, the folder which is normally named ‘Disk Management’ only has a little grey box where the name is supposed to be. When I click on it, nothing displays under Volume-layout- type file system at the top section, though the bottom section shows the drives but incompletely – no volume size, file system, healthy thingy.
Also there are no other entries beneath Storage when expanded (disk defragmenter, logical drives).
When I right-click on Storage or the Disk Management to try and see if I can add the missing items, mmc.exe crashes and Computer management quits. Same happens when I select Storage and click on Action.
Can’t add snap-ins or change a thing here.
Anybody knows what’s up? How do I get around this?
Everything else works fine apparently, except can’t defrag. Yep, no bugs either.
Thanks for any help!
