No Icons

my problem is when i’m in explorer supposed to be i can change preferred views (i.e. Large Icons, Small Icons, List and Detailed. Now all the 3 views are fine but when i switch to detailed view, i see no icons at all including the task bar by date,by modified etc. I can only see at the bottom the total number files. why is this so. pls help.
