NO SOUND

I can’t receive constant sound from my pc. I was having problems with electrical surges at my old house and had to move my pc often. So now, no sound comes out except when I play with the speaker plug going to the back of pc, once in a while it will let sound come thru. Also the same with the microphone. Is there anything I can do to correct this with out putting in another motherboard to replace these connectors. The computer store informed me that replacing the motherboard was my only hope.
