no wakeup after sleep mode

I have run into this strange problem a few times. Many times it is spyware, while other times it is a setting in the bios. I have since run into this problem once again, but this time my normal solutions do nothing to resolve this problems. Does anyone have any clues? OS win98 machine goes into sleep mode but does not wake up.
