Noisy Fan

I have a new Toshiba 1135-S1554 laptop with Windows XP which has a very loud and noisy fan. The fan comes up every 1-2 minutes and is extremely annoying. Looking for help to resolve this issue. I would like to know if this is a common issue. Please help
