Note Book Boot UP Problem

Ater installing Windows 98_Se on my Compaq Pessario laptop, I only got 16 colors, so I installed a new driver. After installing the new driver, evertime I try to start up my laptop it shutsdown, or goes into safemode. When it goes into safemode and windows appears before I can reinstall new drivers it shuts off. Can someone tell me what I can do. Thanks Chris
