notebk hangs “searching driver..” ok in

After badly blotching a new serial mouse installation, an employee’s windows ME notebook keeps hanging during boot up with the message “… searching for driver…”; even when the new serial mouse is NOT connected.

The notebook is able to boot upproperly in safe mode.

I have advised him to get rid of the serial mouse and try to master using the built-in touchpad.

But how do I stop the notebook from always trying to keep searching for the mouse driver.
