NT 4.0 BDC in a 2000 Domain

My network is currently ran by an NT 4.0 PDC and all Win2K member servers. I purchased a new machine that will eventually take the place of the PDC. I want to bring the new machine up as a BDC, promote to PDC, then upgrade to Win2K. My only problem is the current NT PDC runs legacy software and needs to stay on the network for a few more months.

My question is can I upgrade a PDC to Win2K and still have an NT 4.0 BDC on the Network? If so will the BDC still think it is a Domain Controller and how will this work with Active Directory.
