NTFS Permission’s Loss after convert

When ever I convert a drive from FAT to NTFS using the dos command, Convert, I lose permissions to my icons for all my usernames except the ones who have Admin rights. I have to manually recreate new icons for the users to be able to access them. Isthere a more easier fix for this or is this the only way around it?
